2021 EASTER PROCESSION PICTORIAL

In the past we have mounted a special display of Easter Procession photographs with either a special theme or from a specific time period. These displays depict all the fun and glamour of the Easter Procession as reflected in the slides and photographs which now form part of our image collection. The procession has long been a highlight of Maldon’s Easter Fair. The floats are usually quite topical and often humorous, and always the subject of a great deal of planning and work by their entrants. In 2021 visitors were able to browse through folders of the many photographs from our past Easter Procession Pictorials.

2019 HISTORY WEEK DISPLAY October

All the excitement and thrilling atmosphere of the historic Mount Tarrengower Hillclimb was able to be relived at the Maldon District Museum’s Hillclimb Display for History Week.  The Museum has, as part of its collection, a fascinating selection of Hillclimb memorabilia, including photographs, posters and programmes dating from the 1930s. Thanks to a recent gift from a Maldon motoring enthusiast, the collection has been expanded significantly.

2017 – A DATE WITH MALDON’S MARCHING GIRLS

During Heritage Festival 2017 this special exhibition explored the post-WW2 phenomenon of the ‘marching girls’ through the stories of Maldon’s own marching teams.

Memories, ephemera and photographs told of adventure, discipline and team spirit as Maldon’s girls strutted their stuff at competitions, community events, and Maldon’s celebrated Easter Parade.

2017 Celebration of the MALDON PANORAMA of 1867

On 29 April we celebrated the sesquicentenary of this remarkable panorama of early Maldon with a talk and exhibition. The 3-plate image was produced by travelling photographer, Mr. C. Armstrong, in April 1867.

Our exhibition included an original print of the photograph and digital explorations of it, plus ephemera and reports from the day; our talk revealed more about the image, its photographer, and the complex processing required for its creation.

HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2016 – MALDON REDISCOVERED

Join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Maldon being declared a ‘Notable Town’ by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).

Discovery and rediscovery are integral to Maldon’s character. The wealth of Maldon’s remarkably intact gold-rush era buildings, streetscapes and historic mining landscapes can now be rediscovered and experienced by all thanks to the heritage conservation work commenced 50 years ago.

Our special exhibition revisits the beginnings of heritage conservation in Victoria and the highs and lows of living and working with ‘notability’.

The exhibition will be held at the Maldon District Museum which is housed in Maldon’s historic former Market House building, an architectural treasure in its own right.

MALDON HERITAGE FESTIVAL: MAY 2015

Red Cross Certificate Maldon EventThe 2015 Heritage Festival theme is Conflict and Compassion and the Maldon Museum & Archives Association will be presenting activities which will encourage visitors to discover how the Great War touched the entire community and ultimately changed the very fabric of Maldon and District.

2015 EASTER PROCESSION PICTORIAL: Images from 1957 to 1966

All the fun and glamour of the procession is reflected in the colour slides taken by local resident and amateur photographer Harry Grigg from 1957 to 1966. Mr Grigg was also the MLC for the Electorate of Bendigo during this time. These slides have now been digitised and large colour prints produced for the display. Slideshows will also be running – this time on a television screen rather than a ‘white wall’.

You are invited to come along, relive old memories and help our volunteers to identify the people and organisations represented.

Easter Procession Float 1962The procession has always been a highlight of Maldon’s Easter Fair. The floats are usually very innovative and often humorous, and always the subject of a great deal of planning, design and many hours of decoration by the entrants.

Easter Fair FloatFifty and more years ago floats were even more decorative than today, and of course then as now dressing up, decorating bikes, and making signs was all part of the fun.
