Online search facilities:

  • Family Names List provides a current list of surnames which are represented in our research files.
  • Local Newspapers are an excellent source of research material. The local newspaper is The Tarrangower Times which over time also included various combinations of the Maldon, Maldon & District, Newstead, Baringhup, Laanecoorie and Muckleford Advertiser. There are several ways to access the information in these publications. Since mid-2022 full access to the editions from 1858 to 1901 are available via Trove’s online newspapers collection.
  • Alternatively you could use the Tarrangower Times Index which provides searchable access to manually produced indexes of the newspaper volumes from Jun 1858 – Jan 1864 and Jan 1872 – May 1880
  • Apart from the indexes available online, most editions of The Tarrangower Times from 1858 to current are accessible on micro-film or in hard copy, also other local newspapers, and cuttings from other papers
